Baseball Boat from Alexandria to Nationals Park

As an Alexandrian, I’d like to think I know of everything going on here (don’t we all?) but it’s true, some things have gotten past me — including the Potomac Riverboat Co.’s Baseball Boat. But now that I’ve experienced its convenience and ease (not to mention gorgeous riverside views) firsthand, it won’t happen again.

Alexandria is known for its waterfront activities — including the water taxis to Georgetown, the National Mall and National Harbor, plus other seasonal tours. What you may not know is that the Potomac Riverboat Co. also has the Baseball Boat, which takes passengers to Nationals Park to catch a Washington Nationals game and concerts held at the stadium.

The boat departs from the Old Town waterfront on the Miss Christen at various times depending on when the game starts. As you leave the dock area, you’re left with views of rays of sunlight hitting the water, causing a beautiful reflection. As the boat makes its way out of the waterfront area, you’ll soon pass and leave in your wake picturesque sailboats that seem to be floating aimlessly.

The boat then cruises along the Potomac River where you can view the city of Alexandria from afar and take in closer views of both sides of the Potomac River, including the Navy Research Lab, Rosslyn, Washington-Reagan National Airport, the Capitol Building and the National Monument, then arriving at Nationals Park. You have your choice of the upper open air deck or the lower air conditioned deck. The lower deck also has a bar serving beer, wine, water and soft drinks along with movie theater-style popcorn.

The Baseball Boat experience is ideal for out of town guests, a fun night out with friends or a date night with your other half, allowing you to skip the traffic and arrive just outside the stadium at the designated dock area. For myself, the game wasn’t a big deal — I’m not even a sports fan, but the idea of arriving by boat and then taking in the night views of our town on the way home was what drew me in and made the evening especially extraordinary.
