Alexandria is known for its chef-driven restaurants and creative comfort food. And its BBQ scene is no different, with plenty of classic ‘cue spots to choose from in the Port City serving up all your favorite BBQ recipes and meats like ribs, sandwiches, brisket, plus all the sides and sauces you could ever dream of.

Myron Mixon’s Pitmaster Barbecue

Myron Mixon’s Pitmaster Barbecue in Old Town is Alexandria’s newest BBQ joint and already one of its hottest. The new restaurant comes from world BBQ champion, celebrity pitmaster Myron Mixon and his award-winning barbeque made with his competition rubs and sauces on barbecue classics in a lively atmosphere. The menu has everything a BBQ-lover needs, from sandwich and plate combinations to ribs and chicken, endless sides and appetizers and special family offerings.

Sweet Fire Donna’s

Sweet Fire Donna’s is a hidden gem in Alexandria’s Carlyle neighborhood, with BBQ sauce so good you’ll definitely want to buy a bottle before you leave. It’s the perfect spot to grab a drink and some BBQ with friends, sit outside or catch the big game at the bar inside. Pork Barrel BBQ

Pork Barrel BBQ is the go-to BBQ spot in Alexandria’s Del Ray neighborhood, known for their slow-smoked meats, sides and dry spice rubs all made in-house. Ribs are half-priced on Tuesdays, and you can get a full BBQ lunch for under $10 with their Bartender’s Lunch Bucket Special, plus happy hour specials on pulled pork sandwiches, sliders and nachos five days a week.

Rocklands BBQ

Rocklands BBQ has been an Alexandria institution and local favorite for almost 30 years, serving real wood-smoked BBQ with fresh, local ingredients. Located in Alexandria’s West End neighborhood, Rocklands serves up BBQ every day of the year except for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Their salads and sides are heavenly and the meat is fall-off-the-bone good, all in a casual space that’s perfect for groups.

Jackson 20

If you’re in Old Town looking for Southern BBQ that can compete with your family recipes, stop by Jackson 20 on King Street. The BBQ spare ribs are heavenly, and the slow cooked beef brisket with horseradish mashed potatoes will make your mouth water before it even hits the table. They’ve also got all your favorite sides like mac and cheese, collard greens, fried green tomatoes and more.

Southside 815

Southside 815 is a neighborhood bar in South Old Town where locals go when they’re craving comfort food. They’ve got BBQ recipes from New Orleans to North Carolina, and you definitely don’t want to miss the New Orleans BBQ shrimp to start. It’s a fun spot to grab a beer while you eat or catch a game on TV.

Northside 10

Northside 10 comes from the folks behind Southside 815, and offers a similar concept in the Arlandria neighborhood. Northside offers the same caliber of delicious BBQ in dishes like the braised short ribs or the Carolina pulled-pork sandwich, plus their slaw is amazing.

King Street Blues

King Street Blues is another local favorite in Old Town and has an extensive BBQ menu that makes it one of the best in the city. They’ve got a menu with four different rib specials, “Southern Suppers” like BBQ brisket and sausage, and specialty smoked sandwiches. It’s a great spot if you’re looking for late-night eats or live music in Old Town.
