It’s no secret that Alexandria loves dogs: just take a stroll down King Street in Old Town or Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray and you’ll see many a pooch doing the same, human companion in tow. With dog friendly hotels, parks, boutiques and free treats throughout town, Alexandria is downright pup-ular.
That’s why Extra Alex is extra-excited to kick off your week with our new series, Dogs of Alexandria, featuring dog-on-the-street photos and interviews—oh, and a human or two as well.
See owners and their pups on the dog friendly streets of Alexandria:
Meet Chesapeake Bay Retriever Ayeisha and her companion, Jennifer: “Ayeisha loves the river. She also loves the local dog stores, like The Dog Park. She knows her way there from any direction.”
Meet Asher, the concierge at Principle Gallery. Says co-worker Clint: “He loves greeting people and bringing them into the gallery.” Asher’s such a welcoming host, he’s got his own hashtag, #AsherPG!
This is Farley on a walk with his owner, Mario: “He loves getting to walk to work. He also loves the water bowls outside the Monaco.”
Guinness, a friendly Rottweiler, hit the town with his Old Towne School for Dogs trainer Consuela: “He’s a social butterfly.” (Guinness, with those moves, you’ll have no trouble making friends!)
A Wisconsin native, Gracie thought she would check out Alexandria because she heard how dog-friendly it was. She wasn’t disappointed, according to owners Drew and Garrett Warner: “She loved Founder’s Park.”
Bear, a Border Collie/Chou mix, likes long walks along the Potomac to enjoy the scenic views. According to his owner Nancy, “He loves swimming in the Potomac and getting treats from Potomac Bead Company and The Dog Park.” Bone appétit, Bear!
