Calling all creatives and popcorn-enthusiasts! Feeling corny? Popped! Republic, the pop-ular popcorn truck seen rolling around Washington, DC has created a brand new flavor, and is in search of a name that’ll pay homage to the company’s hometown—Alexandria!
The new flavor is a caramel-coated kernel with hints of banana, drizzled in dark chocolate (commence drooling). The contest will run from June 19-July 3, 2014, and the winner will receive not only the glory of having their inventive name listed amongst the other delicious Popped! Republic flavors, but a tin of popcorn filled with three brand new flavors, all named for Alexandria (including the banana chocolate!). Enter your submission below or, starting Friday, June 20th, drop by to taste-test the new flavor and cast your vote at the Alexandria Visitors Center (221 King St.) from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday-Monday and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday or at Popped! Republic headquarters (2381 S. Dove St.) from 9 a.m.-2 p.m Monday-Friday.
Make sure to keep the name Alexandria-inspired! To get started, here are some fun facts about Alexandria you might consider when brainstorming:
- Alexandria was founded by Scottish merchants in 1749, and continues celebrating its Scottish heritage each year
- The city is George Washington’s hometown, with his historic Mount Vernon estate only eight miles south
- Two of Alexandria’s streets are still paved with cobblestones
- The city was historically a thriving seaport
This contest is now closed – thanks for playing!
