Carlyle House

Carlyle House was literally a labor of love, built by city founder John Carlyle for his bride Sarah Fairfax in 1753. Only two blocks from the Old Town Alexandria waterfront, this historic Georgian Palladian manor grants you easy access to prime photography scenery and hot dining, shopping and hotels on nearby King Street. But its best feature is the beautiful, intimate garden with a gazebo that will make you want to skip right to the kissing part. (Similar venues include Lee-Fendall House Museum and Garden and Lloyd House.)

If you’re going for iconic, get hitched aboard the Cherry Blossom. This Victorian-style paddle wheeler sets sail from the Alexandria marina and cruises the Potomac River while you and your guests soak in the spectacular views of Old Town and DC from the open-air third deck. Worried about weather? She’s got two interior salons with heating, air conditioning and gorgeous mahogany woodwork. Now that’s a party boat.

Hotel Monaco and Lorien Hotel & Spa

With a vibrant color scheme and plush décor, the Monaco sets the stage for a sophisticated affair in the heart of Old Town. It also scores major points for its intimate ballroom and outdoor courtyard, catering from fine dining favorite Jackson 20, outstanding customer service, and proximity to Old Town’s best restaurants, boutiques and historic architecture to boot.

For a smaller, intimate wedding, check out The Lorien Hotel & Spa, where you can enjoy skyline views of Old Town from a private rooftop terrace, gather around a fire pit in the outdoor courtyard, and indulge in luxurious Belgian American catering from BRABO by Robert Wiedmaier. The full-service spa might just convince you to stick around for your honeymoon.

A flexible space with a ballroom feel, the Masonic Memorial’s marble floors and granite columns offer a blank slate that you can dress up or down depending on your wedding style—or you can use smaller, more intimate rooms. It’s also conveniently located near the King Street Metro station and you can book the observation deck so your guests can take in Old Town Alexandria from up above.

Two words: waterfront views. Just a half block from the end of King Street, Waterfront Park gives you lovely vistas of the Potomac River in a natural oasis that can accommodate larger parties. It’s also steps away from the Hotel Monaco and the Torpedo Factory.

Torpedo Factory Art Center

Creative couples favor the Torpedo Factory for its unique setting, proximity to the waterfront and loads of space to style as you like. Major perks include a hip combination of industrial details and whimsical art, plus access to the brick terrace behind the art center for riverfront nuptials. But the best part? Even guests with two left feet won’t be able to resist this funky dance floor.

To really jazz your guests, book the Carlyle Club. This art deco supper club features a curved wooden dance floor, raised stage, uniformed servers and rounded leather booths, plus an all-in-one price that includes catering from the restaurant and streamlines planning. And it’s easy to get to this jumping joint, located only a couple blocks from the King Street Metro station. (The large bathrooms with multiple vanities make getting ready here a breeze, too.)

This one is for the history buffs—or anyone who’d like to get married in a, well, presidential setting. The Mount Vernon Inn offers multiple colonial-style dining rooms equipped with fireplaces (seasonal), professional servers in period costume and candle-lit Colonial cuisine just steps from our first president’s humble abode. You can also opt to add a private tour of Washington’s mansion during cocktail hour. (Other perks include an outdoor sunken garden and free parking for guests.)

The Athenaeum

A beautiful hidden gem for weddings, the Athenaeum is a Virginia landmark dating to the mid-1800s. The pink Greek Revival building is home to an art gallery, with large windows and lots of natural light. A small courtyard surrounded by ivy-covered brick walls makes a simple, stunning backdrop for an intimate ceremony—and it’s just two blocks from Alexandria’s waterfront, ideal for photos.
